Abstract

Objective: To determine the maternal risk in a pregnant woman with chronic arterial hypertension at the Kamenge university hospital center. Patients and methods: This was a retrospective descriptive and analytical study of pregnant women with chronic arterial hypertension recorded in the department of gynecology and obstetrics of the Kamenge University Hospital Center over a period of two years. Results: The frequency of chronic arterial hypertension was 0.71%. The mean age was 32.37±6.17 years and with extremes of 18 and 44 years. The age group between 30-40 years was the most affected with more than 50% of cases. The main cardiovascular risk factors were physical inactivity, obesity and diabetes in 33.87%, 25.81% and 20.97% of cases, respectively. The obstetric history was miscarriage, preeclampsia and fetal death in utero in 27.4%, 12.9% and 11.29% of cases, respectively. Maternal complications were present in 37.09%. Conclusion: Chronic arterial hypertension in pregnant women is common at the Kamenge University Hospital Center with a high rate of complications. The risk factors are cardiovascular (sedentary lifestyle, obesity, diabetes) and obstetrics (miscarriage, pre-eclampsia, death in utero).
